(On being asked by the lover for permission to depart, a battle occurred between tears and life, located in the throat of the beloved, for leaving first.)
I am seriously indebted to you for these lovely stories. Not just for the stories, but the simplicity of the Sanskrit, which is so nice! These interesting posts help me keep in touch with Sanskrit… Great job!! Many thanks!!!
समस्यामेनां इतोऽपि वरं न कोऽपि पूरयितुं शक्यते
can you please explain the meaning of this
Ramkumar,
It means “Nobody else can complete this samasya better than this”.
I hope there is no error in my Sanskrit translation.
first time here, and ofcourse first time at any sanskrit blog. Happy to see this blog in Dev-Bhasha. You are performing a great job. Thanks.
Can this story be called as a Jataka tale?
does the following below in bold mean whats written in the parenthesis?
यामीति प्रियपृष्टायाः प्रियायाः कण्ठसक्तयोः।
अश्रुजीवितयोरासीत् पुरो निस्सरणे रणः॥
(On being asked by the lover for permission to depart, a battle occurred between tears and life, located in the throat of the beloved, for leaving first.)
Natasha Dominique,
This incident is narrated in the book named “Aitihyamala” in Malayalam. It is a collection of legends. The meaning of the verse was not given in that book. So, when I translated the story into Sanskrit, I gave the meaning in brackets. I assumed it to be the meaning of the verse. Do you think that it is wrong? I am not a Sanskrit scholar. So, I had discussed this with a friend of mine. He explained to me the sloka in the said manner. Please let me know if you have a better translation of this verse.
